/2 Peter 1:16-21
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honour and glory from God the Father when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, my Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.’ We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven, while we were with him on the holy mountain.
So we have the prophetic message more fully confirmed. You will do well to be attentive to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
The author of today's text harkens to the moment of Jesus' baptism, when the heavens opened up and a God's voice come roaring down saying, "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
I like to think each of our baptisms as the moment when the heavens open up and God claims us as beloved children by saying, "You are my son (or daughter), my beloved, in whom I find happiness!"
God finds happiness in YOU! How else can you explain why God would come to this world as one of us to be with you?!
How cool is that!? That God finds happiness in you and, just to prove it, God sent God's only son into the world to be with you! That is the Good News of the Gospel, friends! That is the message that we prepare for on this, the day of Christmas Eve's Eve.
Prayer of the Day:
God of my Salvation,
thank you for finding happiness in me.
May my actions this day reflect the the happiness I find in you. Amen.
